Suunto Vertical 常見問題
How do I get the most out of Suunto Vertical's battery modes?
On Suunto Vertical there are 4 pre-defined battery modes: Performance, Endurance, Ultra and Tour. You can also create a custom battery mode (note: this is particularly useful if you want to turn on touch display during the recording, as all default battery modes have it turned off by default. Custom battery modes are always sport mode specific, meaning you can define a different custom mode for every sport depending on your needs). Battery mode selection is memorized in the watch: the last battery mode you selected with a specific sport mode will be suggested to you the next time you launch that same sport mode.
When starting an exercise, Performance mode is activated by default. To switch mode, swipe down and go to “battery mode” in the options: when you select one, you will see the battery mode settings, also shown below:
NOTE: Suunto Vertical is the first Suunto watch offering users the possibility of using multi-band GNSS. Multi-band is activated when using “performance” mode, or “best” GPS accuracy in a custom battery mode. It also always uses all available GNSS systems (GPS, Galileo, GLONASS, Beidou).
Battery mode names and GPS accuracy definitions have been rescaled to reflect this. “Good” GPS accuracy/endurance mode in Suunto Vertical corresponds to “best” GPS accuracy/performance mode in Suunto 9 Peak Pro; “OK” GPS accuracy/ultra mode in Suunto Vertical corresponds to “Good” GPS accuracy/endurance mode in Suunto 9 Peak Pro. With Suunto Vertical, you can therefore activate navigation in performance, endurance and even ultra battery mode.
NOTE: Using maps will significantly increase battery consumption, resulting in shorter battery life compared to the values shown above.
NOTE: on Solar models, solar energy will recharge the watch while in use, increasing the battery life compared to the values shown above (the impact of solar depends on location, exposure, and weather conditions).
How can I download offline maps on my Suunto watch?
With Suunto Vertical, we introduced the possibilty of downloading and using offline maps on your watch!
Maps are available worldwide, and they are free, but they are not loaded in the watch by default when you start using them. You can download the specific areas you are interested in using Suunto app.
To be able to download maps, you first need to connect your watch to a wireless network network.
To do so, start by making sure that the "Wireless network" toggle in the watch (under "settings => connectivity" is turned on. Also, make sure that Airplane mode and Power saving are turned off.
Plug your watch to the usb charger - it will need to be connected to a power source and in range of wireless network throughout the wireless network connection and map download process.
Make sure your watch is paired to Suunto app, and that both Suunto app and the watch itself are updated to the latest version. Then, you can connect the watch to a wireless network network by tapping on the watch icon in Suunto app to open the watch tab, and going to "wireless networks". Tap on "add network" on the bottom, and select a network in range from the list that you can connect to. Enter the password and tap "connect" - your watch will connet to the network and is now ready to download maps.
Now you can choose maps and download them to your watch. You can start either from the watch tab ("offline maps") or from the map tab in Suunto app. "Download"offline maps".
Find the country where your chosen map area lies in the "nearby" section or from the general list, or use the search bar to look for it by name. Then select the specific area you are interested in. This will open the detailed page for that area: tap on "download map for watch" there, and your download will start. You can select multiple areas for download, and this will create a download queue that the watch will go through.
During download, the watch needs to stay plugged in and connected to wireless network. If everything works, in a few minutes the watch will tell you that your download is complete; if wireless network connection is interrupted, or the cable is disconnected, the download will be paused and the watch will inform you about it. There's no reason to worry though, the progress is not lost and download will resume automatically once the charging cable is connected again and wireless network is re-established.
You can download multiple map areas to the watch: you will find your downloaded maps in your Suunto app library: You can now use your maps with your Suunto watch either as a standalone navigation feature, or while recording a workout.
NOTE: Maps are downloaded via a direct connection of the watch to wireless network, not through your phone. As a consequence, there are some limitations:
- Suunto Vertical supports 2.4 GHz wireless network - there might be some 5 GHz networks that the watch can't see.
- It won't be possible to use any wireless network network that requires additional verification via a web-page (such as public neworks in hotels or airports), as that additional step is not possible in the watch
NOTE: If the download is interrupted without the cable being disconnected nor wireless network connection being lost, and doesn't start again automatically, you can try to cancel the download from Suunto app, and start again from the beginning.
How do I use the the Snorkeling sport mode in my Suunto Watch
Suunto 9 Peak Pro and Suunto Vertical can measure depth up to 10 meters, and thanks to this it can be used to track your snorkeling activities.
To start, swipe up or press the upper button to get to the sport modes’ list and select “snorkeling”. Adjust the sport mode settings (for battery mode, GPS, wrist HR, etc.) and, when GPS and heart rate have been found, hit start.
There are three displays during the activity. As you start diving, colors turn up to give a better graphical visualization of the information you need.
Let’s look at what they are and what they show:
- Surface display. It shows, from top to bottom: time of day, total activity duration, total activity distance, temperature. In the bezel ring, a graphical representation of the current surface interval (one minute per segment from 1 to 5).
- Dives table. It has three columns, showing each dive number, its duration and max depth. In addition, on the left it displays the surface interval duration after each dive before you went underwater again.
- Dive display. It shows, from top to bottom: maximum depth of the current dive, duration of the current dive, temperature. In the bezel ring, a graphical representation of the current dive duration.
A dive will automatically start as soon as you reach 1 meter depth. When you resurface, the dive is automatically concluded and the surface interval timer starts. A second dive starts as soon as you descend under 1 meter again.
After saving the activity, it will be transferred to Suunto app when the watch syncs. In Suunto app you’ll have access to a dive depth profile, and to a customizable dive table highlighting by default max depth, dive time, recovery time and cumulated duration for each dive.
NOTE: Suunto 9 Peak Pro and Suunto Vertical can only measure depth up to 10 meters of depth. When going deeper than 10 meters of depth, the watch will show >10 m.

How can I record a multisport activity on my Suunto watch?
Your Suunto Spartan, 5/5 Peak, 9/9 Peak have predefined Triathlon sport modes that you can use to track your triathlon workouts and races; if you need to track another sort of multisport activity, you can easily do so directly from the watch.
- Start an exercise as you would normally do, using the sport mode that you will use for the first leg of your multisport activity (e.g. running if you are starting a swimrun or duathlon). As usual, wait for GPS to be found and set the options you need before pressing start
- When it’s time to switch sport mode, hold the upper button for two seconds to enter the multisport menu
- The list of sport modes in your watch short list (except the one you are currently using) will come up. Scroll the list with the upper and lower right button to get to the sport you need for the second leg of your multisport workout, then press the middle button to select it. The new sport mode will start immediately.
TIPS:
- You can do this however many times you need during one single recording, including repeating a sport mode you used previously (e.g. it’s entirely possible to record a run/walk/run/walk/run multisport exercise)
- Sport modes will have the same displays and settings they have when used as a standalone sport mode: check out how to create customized sport modes in Suunto app on iOS and Android.
- Only sport modes that are in the short list will appear as options when starting a new multisport activity: if there are only two sport modes in the short list, you will not have to press any additional button to switch to the only one available
NOTE: Suunto 7 does not support multisport
NOTE: To record a multisport session on a Suunto Ambit2 or Ambit 3 Sport/Peak/Vertical watch (Ambit, Ambit 2 R and Ambit3 Run do not support multisport).

In addition to that, with those two models it will be possible to select SuuntoPlus™ sports app(s) for an exercise even during the recording, not only at the beginning.
Note: while recording an exercise, you can either use a SuuntoPlus™ sports app or a SuuntoPlus™ guide or a structured workout. You cannot use any simultaneously.
How can I use the SuuntoPlus™ Store in Suunto app?
Suunto app allows you to customize your Suunto watch even more with the introduction of SuuntoPlus™ Store.
SuuntoPlus™ Store allows you to create a library of SuuntoPlus™ sports apps, guides from Suunto, and partner services to use in your watch during your trainings. To get started, tap on the watch icon in Suunto app to access the details of your paired watch, and tap on “SuuntoPlus™ Store” to access it.
Choose sports apps, partners or guides and tap on it.
If you enter the “sports apps” category, you’ll find a list of all the available sports apps sorted by category. Apps that are part of your library are identified by a small blue checkmark/symbol. Click on one app to see what it is about, and from there you can add it to the watch or remove them from the library.
From the SuuntoPlus™ Store you can also select guides by Suunto or partners. Tapping on one of them from the list will show with a description of the service and give you the possibility to add them to your watch or remove them from your library. Connecting to a partner will give you the ability to create guides for your watch directly on their website or app.
Changes will be transferred to the watch once it syncs. You can also open the dedicated section for guides and sports apps. The sports apps list allows you to decide which of the apps in your library will be available in the watch (there is a limitation of 15 apps); you can also pin Suunto guides to the watch from your library.
NOTE: The SuuntoPlus™ Store itself is free. Some partner services might require a subscription to use their services as guides for Suunto app, and the sports apps in the "Devices" category (such as the Activelook smartglasses, or Stryd running power) require the use of third-party devices.
NOTE: Items in the SuuntoPlus™ Store are only available on Suunto 3, Suunto 5 and 5 Peak, Suunto 9, 9 Baro, 9 Peak and 9 Peak Pro (note: not all SuuntoPlus™ apps are currently available on all these watch models: depending on pre-requisites, some apps will not be available on certain watch models). If you try to add a sports app or guide from the Store while using a non-compatible watch model, the "add to watch" button will be greyed out and a message will appear alerting of the incompatibility.
How can I create structured workouts with Suunto app and use them in my Suunto watch
With Suunto app, you can create and store structured workouts and sync them to your Suunto watch, so that you can later use them as a guide during your training sessions
To create a structured workout in Suunto app that you can use in your watch to guide you during a training session, you can either tap on the “+” symbol on the top right and select “create structured workout”, or tap to the watch symbol and, from the main watch syncing display, tap on “structured workouts” and then “create new”
You can then set up the basic information for the workout (a name and a brief description that will be shown on the watch, the activity types/sport modes that you wish to use the workout with), and if you want you can set up a date when the workout will be suggested to you on the watch. You’ll then be able to create the actual workout, by adding steps and reps. For each step, you can choose among 4 types of phases (warm-up, interval, recover, and Cooldown), and each of them can have its own name, duration and target.
You can also easily delete steps or duplicate them by sliding from the right and tapping on the dedicated buttons:
Once you are done with the workout details, hit “next” and check the summary of your workout. You can then save it and it will be stored in your workout library (workouts there are listed as upcoming workouts, no specific date, or past workouts. NOTE: past workout won’t be available in the watch, but you can simply remove or change the date and they will be available again): from there, it will sync to the watch and you’ll find it among the SuuntoPlus™ Guides.
ON THE WATCH
Once your workout is synced to the watch, you will be able to find it among the SuuntoPlus™ Guides: if you programmed the workout for a specific day, the watch will remind you that you did and will give you the option to add it to the exercise with one simple click; otherwise, you can always add it manually from the SuuntoPlus™ Guides section of the exercise options.
While training with a structured workout active, an extra display will be added to the ones you normally have for the particular sport mode you are using, with extra information relevant for the workout step you are performing.
When a new step of the workout is about to start, the watch will infrom you of it with a notification on the screen; another dedicated notification will appear at the end of the structured workout.
Note: Structured workouts in Suunto app are based on the SuuntoPlus™ Guides components. Therefore:
- They are only compatible with watches that support SuuntoPlus™ Guides.
- If you are using a Structured workout, you cannot use a SuuntoPlus™ Guide nor a SuuntoPlus™ sport app during the same exercise.

- Autolap: the phone will inform you when an autolap is created, along with relevant information (such as average heart rate or average pace, depending on the sport mode).
You can adjust the volume of the voice feedback by adjusting the main volume settings of your phone.
NOTE: Voice feedback via Suunto app is only available while using Suunto 9 Peak Pro or Suunto Vertical.
How do I use Strava segments on my Suunto watch
If you have connected your Suunto account to Strava, your Suunto watch can guide you along your Strava live segments thanks to new dedicated Suunto SuuntoPlus™ guides (one for running and one for cycling).
Strava segments are portions of road or trail created by members where athletes can compare times. Your Suunto watch is now compatible with live segments, allowing you to check out your performance directly on your watch.
To add segments to your Suunto watch, you simply need to star them in your Strava account: as soon as you have starred at least one segment, the relevant (running and/or cycling) SuuntoPlus™ Strava segments guide will appear in your Suunto app account, containing all your starred segments.
Tapping on the guide will show you what segments you have available for that sport, and they will all be synched to your watch from there. Unstarring a segment in Strava will remove it from SuuntoPlus™ as well.
All starred segments will be available in the watch: first of all, activate the relevant Strava segments guide in the sport mode options before your run or ride.
During your run or ride, you will be able to see how close the closest segment start location is; once you get within 100 meters, the watch will alert you that you are approaching the segment, and as you reach the starting point the segment will start (note: since Strava segments are unidirectional, if you are approaching from the wrong side the segment will not start).
While on the segment you will see a comparison to your personal record (PR) time, showing you how much behind or ahead you are. If you don’t have personal best time on that segment, the comparison will be with King/Queen of the Mountain (KOM/QOM).
At the end of the segment, the result display will be shown: duration, and if you were either behind or ahead your previous PR, and if established a new KOM/QOM (note: this display will last 20 seconds, after which the display will go back to showing the closest segment).
Segments will also create “manual” laps lasting the whole duration of the segment itself; these laps will be visible in Suunto app once the activity is synced. It is recommended to *not* create actual manual laps during the segment as this will negatively impact how the data is shown.
NOTE: if your Strava account is already connected to Suunto app, you have to disconnect them and connect them again, or the segments won't be transferred correctly. Simply go to the "partner services" section of Suunto app, find "Strava" and hit "disconnect"; you can then find "Strava" again and hit "Connect with Strava" to re-establish the connection.
NOTE: Because Strava Live Segments are loaded into a dedicated SuuntoPlus™ guide in your watch:
- They are only compatible with watches that support SuuntoPlus™ guides, that is Suunto 9, 9 Baro, 9 Peak, 9 Peak Pro and Suunto Vertical.
- If you are using the Strava segments guide, you cannot use structured workout, a SuuntoPlus™ sports app nor a SuuntoPlus™ sports app during the same exercise.
NOTE: Strava live segments require Strava subscription.
What information can I see on the Suunto watch faces?
The Suunto watch faces are designed to give you relevant information with just one glance. In this article, you will find all the main watch faces and a key to all the information they provide.
Getting started:
Not every Suunto watch will get all the watch faces. Some are designed for specific watch models.
Every watch face will display interchangeable information. When your watch is awake, tap the screen to change between views.
Every watch face has different color options you can choose from. Tap on the one you want to use.
The watch faces:
Note: If you tap the screen having this watch face on, the watch will display the toggleable information instead of the date - 30th Oct. You can display any information that will help you more than previously selected. The circles for the training days depend on the duration of your training; the longer the training, the bigger the circle.
Note: The surrounding circles will visually indicate the information available at the left base. In this example, daylight hours are visible in yellow and as the sun goes down (around 21), the amount of light per hour will be visible in the darker hue yellows until dark (night). The second inner circle represents the current air pressure, with an estimation of 1010hPa. The central dial indicates the time: 19:36 and the altitude estimation.
Note: You can tap the watch face and the information that will toggle will be the one where the battery percentage is (87%). Nevertheless, the watch will constantly display the battery life on the inner circle, whereas the training time relative to your weekly training goal will be displayed on the outer ring. The innermost ring is an analog time view.
Note: This watch face has a similar concept as the second one from the top. The outer yellow circle will indicate the hours of light from sunrise to sunset, including a visual queue for time on that scale (white line at 10). If you tap the watch face, you will be toggling the information on the lower side of the view. Sunrise and sunset times, moon coverage, and hours of light are GPS-based.
Note: This watch face will provide you with a quick view of your daily goals for calories (orange), steps (blue) and your resources (green). The bars around the watch face will show the progress in completing the goal and the resources relative to 100% being a full bar. By tapping the center of the watch face, you will have the icons on the right: active calories, daily steps and resources.
The following watch face is only available on Suunto Vertical - and it varies depending on whether you have a Titanium Solar version (top) or a Steel version without solar (bottom). The solar version will have a graph of solar harvesting graph on the bottom, the non-solar version will have an altitude trend graph.
Note: You can scroll through complications by tapping on them. On the left side, you can scroll through weather forecast, date, dual time, weekly training, battery level. On the right side, you can scroll through altitude, sunrise/sunset (whichever comes next), moon phase, steps, and - if you have a solar version - solar harvesting.
The rest of the watch faces display less information. The functioning principles are similar for all of them: tapping on the display will rotate the secondary values shown (on top, bottom, right or left of the main field - altitude, daily steps, battery life, sunset, weekday, etc.).
The following two watch faces are only available for Suunto 9 Peak Pro and Suunto Vertical.
How do I reset my Suunto watch?
All the Suunto watches have two types of reset available to address different issues:
- the soft reset, also known as the restart.
- the hard reset, also known as the factory reset.
1. The soft reset (restart):
Performing a restart on your watch might help with the following situations:
- the device is not responding to any button presses, taps, or swipes (the touch screen is not working);
- the display is either frozen or blank;
- the display is frozen in the boot mode (the watch's display shows a downward-facing arrow, "arrow down" issue);
- there is no vibration, e.g., during button presses;
- the watch functionalities are not working as expected, e.g., the watch doesn't record HR (optical heart rate LEDs are not blinking), the compass is not finalizing the calibration process, etc.;
- the step counter is not counting your daily steps at all (please note, recorded steps may be shown with a delay in the app);
- SuuntoLink doesn't recognize the device when plugged in correctly and the USB cable is not faulty.
Note: The restart will end and save any active exercise. Under normal circumstances, the exercise data will not be lost. On rare occasions, a soft reset may cause memory corruption issues.
Performing the soft reset:
- Suunto Ambit: long-press all 5 buttons at the same time for 10s, then release them.
- Suunto Ambit2/ Ambit2 S/ Ambit 2R: long-press all 5 buttons simultaneously for 10s, then release them.
- Suunto Ambit3 Run/ Sport/ Peak: long-press all 5 buttons at the same time for 10s, then release them.
- Suunto Ambit3 Vertical: long-press all 4 corner buttons simultaneously for 10s, then release them. You will need to turn the device back on by long-pressing the upper right button.
- Suunto Traverse/ Traverse Alpha: long-press all 4 corner buttons at the same time for 10s, then release them. You will need to turn the device back on by long-pressing the upper right button.
- Suunto Spartan Collection: long-press the upper right button for 12s and then release it.
- Suunto 3 (Fitness): long-press the upper right and left buttons for 12s and then release them.
- Suunto 5 (Peak): long-press the upper right and left buttons for 12s and then release them.
- Suunto 7: has a specific procedure.
- Suunto 9/ 9 BARO: long-press the upper right button for 12s and then release it.
- Suunto 9 Peak: long-press the upper right button for 12s and then release it.
- Suunto 9 Peak Pro: long-press the upper right button for 12s and then release it.
- Suunto Vertical: long-press the upper right button for 12s and then release it.
There are specific circumstances under which the soft reset might not solve the issue and the second type of reset may be performed. If the above has not helped with the issue you were aiming to solve; the hard reset might help.
2. The hard reset (factory reset):
The factory reset will restore your watch to the default values. It will erase all data from your watch, including exercise data, personal data and settings that have not been synced to either movescount.com or the Suunto app. After a hard reset, you must go through the initial setup of your Suunto watch.
Performing a factory reset on your watch may be performed in the following situations:
- a Suunto Customer Support rep has asked you to do so as part of the troubleshooting procedure;
- the soft reset did not solve the issue;
- the battery life of your device is significantly reducing/ is reduced;
- the device is not connecting to GPS and other troubleshooting has not helped (it doesn't apply to the Suunto 3/ 3 Fitness).
- the device has connectivity issues with Bluetooth devices (e.g., Smart Sensor or mobile app) and other troubleshooting has not helped.
- you are following the SuuntoLink firmware update troubleshooting steps.
Performing the factory reset:
Ambits (1,2,3), Traverse, Spartan, Suunto 3, Suunto 5 and 5 Peak, Suunto 9 and 9 Baro:

- Select Reset watch to start the reset procedure in which SuuntoLink re-installs the latest software version available for your watch.
- The watch will automatically set itself to the boot mode ("arrow down" screen) until the update is finished.
- When you see the setup wizard on your watch, it means the update is complete and you can safely disconnect your watch from the USB cable.

Suunto 5 Peak, 9 Peak, 9 Peak Pro and Suunto Vertical
Go to the watch's Settings - select General and scroll down to Reset settings. All data on your watch will be deleted during the reset. Initiate the reset by selecting "Reset" (with the upper right button or screen tap).
For Suunto 7:
If you are looking for the resetting procedure for your Suunto 7, read and follow the instructions available here and make sure you follow the pairing instructions after performing the factory reset.
NOTE: Both the scenarios presented are to be performed only for emergencies. You should not perform them regularly. If any issue persists, we recommend you either contact our Customer Support or send your watch to one of your authorized service centers.
